CONGRATS! You made it to the last week of school, teachers!!!!! :) I'm joking! Great job to the students, too! A long vacation awaits you. Before you head for the pool or to grab an ice cream cone, I want to send a huge thank you your way. I really enjoy being able to share what I'm doing here in Berlin. So for one last blog before summer...
A week ago, Sven and I had four visitors from my alma mater, Lebanon Valley College. We showed them all around Berlin. Sven and I even saw new places! Here are pictures of our adventures. See if you know why they are important. :)

Berliner Dome from our boat tour.
|
East Side Gallery. The Berlin Wall painted with morals. We didn't even see all of it and we walked for 15 minutes!

Reichstag Building, Rooftop Terrace.

My visitors and I at Brandenburger Tor.
I know some of you are studying WW2. I really enjoy learning about history so living in Berlin has been an amazing opportunity. With that, I had no idea how little I knew about Berlin! There is so much to learn. Also, it is crazy for me to think about the elderly man on the train next to me was growing up in Germany during the time of WW2. It is a bit creepy to think about and to wonder where his alliances were to. The history is very real and tangible in Berlin. Not only in the famous landmarks but on the sidewalk. There are gold squares every so often in the sidewalk. These squares mark where Jewish families lived before being forced out of their homes. It is a very powerful reminder of what took place here. Till this day, there are still Nazi movements in Berlin.
Well, thats enough history in one blog post. So this may be the end of your school year but not the end of my time in Berlin. I hope you will follow again starting in August. I am planning a year of traveling Europe. My goal is every month travel somewhere outside of Berlin. Places may include London, Paris, Copenhagen, Prague, and Dublin. It will most definitely include my beloved Italy.
Have a wonderful summer! Be safe!!!!!
See you around Middleburg. I'm coming home July 9-25.
